Savi Montessori has adopted the Montessori Approach as the core philosophy for our curriculum.
Here is what the Montessori approach is all about
The Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. Montessori concept was created by Dr Maria Montessori in Italy over 100 years ago and schools world over have adopted this method.
We have adopted this method as it helps in the holistic development of your child. Since Montessori method focusses on developmental milestones, it helps your child to understand herself, her environment and her community better. This method puts emphasis on Language, Mathematics and Culture which are fundamental to learning about all fields later in life. The learning is through a multi-sensory, concrete and self-directed approach which fosters independence, creativity, self-discipline and deeper understanding of fundamental concepts of language and mathematics.
Here is how Montessori Approach helps your child
Concrete Multi-sensory learning experiences
With carefully designed classroom, self-correcting materials, and trained teachers the children are encouraged to explore deeper into various topics. The materials scientifically aid the children in learning through sight, smell, audio, kinetics and tactile senses. The multi-sensory approach in learning provides a deeper experience.
Learning is at Child’s individual pace
Montessori curriculum is designed around specific needs and abilities of the children. The curriculum allows children to explore at their own pace on their own terms.
Learning Method Inspires Creativity
Children choosing and working on the activities on their own terms helps foster the love for the work instead of the end result. This aids intrinsic motivation in children and allows them to explore deeper – this is the natural path to creativity.
Montessori encourages Cooperative Play
Since the Teachers don’t run the classroom, the children lead the activities through out the day. The children are free to interact and collaborate with each other while the teacher only plays the role of a facilitator. Children are encouraged to share the space with younger and older children in class. Older children become mentors to younger children and make everyone sensitive to social cooperation.
Hone’s skills like Concentration and Self-discipline
Children choose and work at the activity on their terms without interruption by adults, this helps to build concentration. Children have a choice to select but have to share the space with younger and older children. Children naturally learn self-discipline and responsible behaviour.
Teachers Facilitate the Learning
The Teachers or directress are guides that facilitate the learning experience for the children. Teachers don’t dictate what happens in the class. Teachers take a cue from the children and encourage them to learn and get involved at their own pace. Children are not pressured into group learning, but enjoy learning through hands-on activity.
